Apple reach 2 million downloads

Apple's iTunes service has sold two million songs in its first sixteen days, with half sold as albums, though reports suggest hackers may have broken the system that stops shared tracks.

Sixteen days in and Apple have announced their iTunes service has now sold two million songs - half of which we bought as albums (ie in a package with eight or nine other songs). The new milestone was announced as another 4,300 new songs were added to the system including five albums from The Doors and music from Fischerspooner, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Alanis Morissette, Staind, Nina Simone and Paul Oakenfold. Apple bosses have a lot to be happy about though there were also reports yesterday that some downloaders had managed to hack into the system used by Apple that prevents people from sharing tracks they've bough by email - if true the hackers could damage iTunes sales and their relations with the major labels.
