Glasgow-based alt-jazz quartet Azamiah craft music that feels like it’s breathing. Their sound borrows from jazz’s roots while threading in the spectral textures of electronica, dub and neo-soul, forming a kind of alt-jazz that glows.
Their latest release, ‘New Moon’, has that Cleo Sol-esque luminosity; harmonies float, the instruments breathe and silence becomes part of the melody. And just when you’re settling in, subtle collisions happen, cymbals shimmer, chords cluster, motifs crash into one another, little bursts of energy that feel playful rather than chaotic, giving the song spirit.
‘New Moon’ follows a summer of festival appearances for Azamiah, including two shows at The Great Escape and a headlining slot on the Future Jazz showcase at The Jazz Cafe, garnering the band their rightful reputation as one of the UK’s most exciting new jazz acts.
