Big Softy are Hijac and s.g.cackle, an East London duo who met through a joint SoundCloud compilation in 2021, became friends, and eventually started making a racket together.

Their production roots run through EDM, PC Music and experimental electronics, and a shared love of hardcore and metal keeps the maximalist club music they make physical: heavy dance beats, alt-pop melodies, very little restraint. Sugababes and Lynks have both worked with them.

New single ‘Troubleshooting’ is the abrasive end of all that: an explosive two minutes of heavy dance music with PC Music-style pop running through it, and it doesn’t hang about. Troubleshooting is what you do when your PC goes wrong, so it’s a neat title for a track with this much PC Music in it, but the malfunction here is human.

“We were playing with the relationship some people have with pornography”, they explain, “and how they project their weird fetishistic standards of femininity with something they have a right to”. They add that they’re “kind of casting a hex” on those people.

The new track arrives with the announcement of debut EP ‘Soft Tissue’, out 4 Nov. You can also see them live at their increasingly chaotic live show at YES Basement in Manchester on 7 Nov and The Shacklewell Arms in London on 10 Nov. Wear shoes you don’t love.
