North Carolina-born singer-songwriter chlothegod makes songs that rarely finish in the genre they started in. Soul, alt-R&B, guitar pop and punk all turn up in her music, sometimes mid-song, with lyrics that are honest, funny and not remotely tidy.
Music was her way out of a hometown that bored her, and her 2025 EP, āI Feel Different Every Dayā, worked through frustration, grief and burnout in her twenties. Sheās since shared stages with Olivia Dean and Lola Young.
New single āB Polite!ā starts out quiet and a bit wonky, then builds until sheās declaring āI donāt wanna be politeā. She remembers arriving at the session sick or hungover, wanting something brand new without abandoning herself. āI love this song because itās pulled back until it isnāt, itās metallic and flirty and funny and even superficial a bit, but itās daring until the second it ends and so am Iā, she says.
This track follows āMiddle Manā and āThat Canāt Be Normalā, with more new music expected in the coming months. It would be rude not to listen.
