Liverpool duo Clinic have been making genuinely strange, genuinely brilliant art-punk since the late 90s - surgical masks on stage, acidic vocals, primitive beats and keyboard organs acquired from jumble sales, a Grammy nomination for their second album, tours with Radiohead and Arcade Fire.

So if you know them, you know. If you don’t, their tenth album ‘Wild In The Streets’, out 30 Oct, is as good a place as any to start.

New single ‘Energies’ is the album’s closest venture to the dancefloor, building from a blues riff into something altogether funkier, Ade Blackburn describing it as “a late night party feel, a fun-filled combination of Funkadelic, Carl Douglas and Cabaret Voltaire”. Three more different reference points would be hard to find, which is very Clinic.

“It’s relatively outsider-ish music”, says Blackburn. “But that’s something that’s motivated us to keep going”.
