Brooklyn’s Frankie Rose makes post-punk and 80s synth-pop, glacial sonic atmospherics that sit naturally alongside Cocteau Twins or early Cure. She’s been at it since 2009, drumming for Crystal Stilts, Dum Dum Girls and Vivian Girls along the way, and deserves more ears than she’s got.
New single ‘Manifest’ is at the darker end of her sound, an industrial 4/4 beat, post-punk goth energy, her voice cutting clean through the production. Big and brooding, but with the kind of melody that sticks.
It’s taken from ‘Hila’, a record about grief that’s darker and more industrial than anything she's made before - self-produced at home with Elastica and Lush drummer Justin Welch and out on 18 Sep.
