Glom is the project of Sean Dunnevant, who cut his teeth in the Washington/Baltimore DIY scene before heading to Brooklyn.
His music offers shimmering riffs, 90s-leaning alt-rock choruses and shoegaze haze, with the tight rhythms of late 80s post-punk. Despite all those genre references, itās actually beautifully uncomplicated and candid.
With new single āMirrorā, heās written one of his most frank songs yet. Dunnevant says that, in the past, he worked to keep his lyrics āveiled and mysteriousā, but this time he wanted them to reflect what was actually happening in his life.
Pawning Rick Owens clothes to pay rent, sitting in a heatless apartment through the winter, convincing himself it was fine because it was all he could afford. The mess is left in the open, not papered over.
Yet, in all of that, the track is still unashamedly melodic and uplifting: big, crunchy riffs and 90s alt-rock choruses wrapped in shoegaze haze and post-punk drive. Itās magnetic and brimming with charm.
Whatever the subject tackled, thereās no gloom in Glom.
