Cape Town trio Internet Girl are a new kind of boy band. Pulling from the online music cultures they grew up immersed in, they could be described as alt-rap but with smatterings of hyperpop, punk and indie sleaze. Think the grungy attitude of a live band with fresh and exciting production.

They’ve been building since 2019 and the momentum has become very real: ‘PULL UP’ on the ‘NBA 2K27’ soundtrack, Vince Staples playlisting ‘DA BUSINESS’, Boiler Room Soweto, co-headlining with Basement Jaxx.

New single ‘HIGH AS HEAVEN’ starts sparse with what sounds like the iconic synth riff of Klaxons’ ‘It’s Not Over Yet’, dropping into a rush of distorted textures, with abrupt beat cutouts giving way to explosive returns. It’s got a chorus perfect for a rowdy live call and response, but it then gives way with its closing stretch of hazy harmonies softening the landing.

Vocalist TK initially recorded his vocals on BandLab using headphones, and when they couldn’t recreate the original vocal effects chain, portions of those recordings stayed in the finished song.

Debut album ‘YES’ is out in November. You can catch them live in London at The Lower Third on 6 Dec.
