Looping high vocals over heady, emotional chords, London-based multidisciplinary artist Joviale builds songs that feel like portals; chaptered, strangely sweet versions of the self, spread across releases and designed to blur the space between live performance and recorded work.
New single âHARK!â, the second single from their upcoming debut album âMount Crystalâ, is the centrepiece. Itâs sinister funk that speaks with swagger and sings skyward, cutting through rubbery basslines and angular strums, unruly beats and unusual sound bites.
âNot even them mountains can stop you! Not even them angels can help you!â they shout, as record scratches, guitar solos and shrieking voices spiral into the mix. Written during sessions soundtracked by âThrillerâ, the track embraces chaos with purpose. âSome things donât make senseâ, Joviale says, âbut we can still have fun in that uncertaintyâ.
The accompanying video is a Lynchian, hallucinogenic fever dream, cut with surreal talk show theatrics and streaked with glamour.
