A songwriter with an innate ability to lay bare his emotions without fear of exposing himself, Fran O’Hanlon previously released two albums under the name Ajimal, largely stripped down to just piano and vocals. His new project Mezanmi builds upon his earlier work, bringing in electronics and more layered production to further accentuate the power of his songwriting.
His latest single is ‘Like Spun Gold’, which pushes the development of this sound to its furthest limits yet. The song, he says, is addressed to “those people who can skillfully manipulate others with their words and actions but who can then absolve themselves of responsibility when there are negative consequences”.
“Certain people are so power-hungry that they'll betray anything and anyone in order to cling to it”, he adds. “We wanted a violence in the music to drive home the lyrics”.
Mezanmi is set to play at A Stone's Throw Festival on 25 May, with further live dates to be announced soon.
