PINS are four friends from Manchester who have been making post-punk for more than a decade, long enough to have released an EP featuring Iggy Pop. Their fourth album, ‘If I’m Alive Now, Then I Was Dead’, out in February, is their first since 2020 and it’s billed as a rebirth.
New single ‘No Tears’ has open, yearning lyrics and keeps building until 60s girl-group harmonies pile in, with gritty guitars behind them. It’s a gorgeous, lush and fuzzy offering from the new album and the second half of a double A-side with ‘All Over’, its more brooding counterpart.
‘No Tears’ seems like a love letter to their past selves, which makes sense for an album whose title is borrowed from a Sylvia Plath poem called ‘Love Letter’.
Tickets go on sale on Friday for three intimate seated shows next April in Glasgow, Brighton and Manchester, where they’ll play new arrangements of songs from the new album alongside older favourites. In the meantime, there are three albums to catch up on.
