samxemma build electronic pop that sounds like optimism trying to reboot itself. Sam, forged in Northampton’s gloom and bass, and Emma, with sun-blasted San Diego sarcasm, now operate out of Manchester, crystallising a sound that fuses glossy pop hooks with the wide-eyed euphoria of 2012 dance music.
Their new single ‘Me forever :(’ is another beautifully chaotic, maximalist blast from the duo, with over bright, club-leaning synths and percussion that sounds like someone shaking the internet until a feeling falls out.
Emma picks apart digital-era melancholy with sharp humor: too exhausted to function (“You can pry me off the couch / But I’ll still sleep all week”) and too online to escape herself (“You can take the girl offline / But she’ll still think in tweets”).
It’s a fizzy, euphoric thesis on being terminally self-aware in a world that won’t stop refreshing.
Emma says the track is “the realisation that even if I wanted to drop everything in my life and ‘runaway’, I’d still be me everywhere I go. I’m me forever and nothing will ever change that, which is usually quite a scary thought for me”.
