X & Ivy have spent the last few years steadily building up a reputation as reliable party chefs, cooking up the pulse of early Chicago house and Detroit techno with a sprinkle of breakbeat and acid textures of 90s UK rave.
Their new EP âBroken Jamâ, out now on Bradley Zeroâs adored Rhythm Section, is the sound of two producers who know exactly what theyâre doing and arenât wasting anyoneâs time.
The four tracks move with real purpose. Opener âBack In 10â comes in hot with a warped, synth-driven energy that sets the tone immediately. Title track âBroken Jamâ pulls things into slightly more melodic territory without losing the floor.
âCould This Be Loveâ is the curveball: drums that suggest one thing before the track opens up into something euphoric, uplifting chords wrapped around soulful backing vocals. Then âZen Hotlineâ closes it out, leaning harder into techno, bouncing beats and whirling sirens, a statement of intent.
âThis EP leans deeper into our love of house musicâ, the duo say, âbuilt for warm rooms and long nightsâ. Exactly that.
