Arctic Monkey spurns fair weather friends

Arctic Monkeys guitarist Jamie Cook says former schoolfriends have started contacting Alex Turner since the band became successful.

Arctic Monkey Alex Turner is apparently plagued by calls and texts from former friends who suddenly want to know him again now that he's famous. Which is hardly news, really. I would imagine that sort of thing happens to anyone who steps into the public eye.

Anyway, The Star are reporting on it, so I'm wrong, and it must be news. According to them, one of the people who called was the inspiration for a song. The band's guitarist, Jamie Cook, said "one rang the day we went to number one. She went to school with me and Alex. We all lost contact completely after school, and then she pretended she didn't recognise us in a queue for a club a year later. That influenced a song we've got now..."

He continued: "But when we had a hit, she got Alex's number from someone a few weeks ago. So she phones one day and says congratulations and 'text me your number, we'll have to get together and go out sometime. Yeah - right luv, I'm never even going to text you."
