Artic Monkeys: 'We're not pretentious like the Shambles'

Arctic Monkeys have told Gigwise they find the Libertines and Babyshambles pretentious, and say they prefer lyrics that are easier to understand.

So, there we were, all set for to run a whole edition of the CMU Daily without any Pete Doherty news, then the Artic Monkeys start (slightly) dissing Babyshambles and, damn, Doherty's back in. Sorry. But blame the Monkeys.

The band have spoken to music website Gigwise about the comparisons that have been made between them and the Libertines and Babyshambles. Frontman Alex Turner told the website: "Yes, it's kinda strange, but you gotta keep on with what you're doing, I mean if there's someone we're being compared to, there's worse we can be compared to. I find the Libertines and Babyshambles, a bit pretentious; it's a bit dreamy really."

Guitarist James Cook added: "They want to write poetry with clever hidden meanings, we prefer lyrics that are easier to get."
