Approved: Acid Coco

Colombian musicians now based in Berlin, Paulo and Andrea Olarte – aka Acid Coco – mix numerous sounds from their home country with various different influences collected on their travels.
In particular, they draw on the rhythms of Colombia, from 1950s cumbia to more modern reggaeton. There’s also a hefty dose of tropical punk added along the way, and Paulo’s work as a house producer creeps in too.
Last month, the duo released their debut single ‘Yo Bailo Sola’. The track takes cumbia – traditionally a couples dance – and sees Andrea tell an admirer, “I dance alone”.
New single, ‘El Amor de Mis Amores’, is slightly less solitary (if only briefly). Andrea explains: “It’s about fleeting, intoxicating love. They were the love of our lives, but then they left and we got on with our lives”.
“It’s our way of talking about the tragi-comedy that we live every day of our lives”, Paulo adds. “We’re used to making fun of everything”.
Acid Coco’s debut album ‘Mucho Gusto’ is set for release later this year. Watch the video for ‘El Amor de Mis Amores’ here:
