Approved: Diamond
By Andy Malt | Published on Wednesday 17 August 2016
A couple of years ago, Brazilian rap trio Pearls Negras made a splash with their ‘Biggie Apple’ and ‘Nossa Gang’ mixtapes, making their way over to the UK for a handful of shows, including one at the Old Blue Last that saw Andre 3000 tucked away in a corner to watch. Now, with all eyes on their hometown of Rio de Janeiro, they’ve taken the opportunity to relaunch themselves as Diamond with fiery new single ‘Bad Girls’.
Mixing trap and Brazilian bass for their backing, the trio’s already powerful delivery has been honed and sharpened since last they released any new music. Perhaps that’s reflected in the name change, from pearls to diamonds. Whatever gem they now identify as, they remain an act who should be very much on your radar.
