Approved: Duval Timothy
By Andy Malt | Published on Tuesday 4 August 2020
Duval Timothy is set to release his second album, ‘Help’, this week – the follow-up to 2017’s ‘Sen Am’. As with that first record, his piano compositions form the base of the tracks with a range of samples, field recordings, other instrumentation and guest vocalists adding further textures.
Following last month’s ‘Slave’, featuring Twin Shadow, Timothy has now released another single, ‘Fall Again’, featuring Lil Silva and Melanie Faye. The track is one of the fuller-sounding in his catalogue, with choral elements, lightly painted guitars and, as it builds, drums and bass.
The new track “started as a solo piano composition”, he says. “After I played it to Lil Silva in his studio, he sang to it on the spot. We discussed the concept of a loved one going away and the value of patience”.
He adds: “One way or another, this record is about loving and believing in yourself to be better; to settle down your constant cycle of thoughts and be still because the universe has a plan for all of us. The message we wanted people to take away from the song is about breaking through these negatives and believing in the universe to do its work”.
‘Help’ is out on 7 Aug. Listen to ‘Fall Again’ here:
