Approved: English Teacher
By Andy Malt | Published on Tuesday 29 June 2021
Emerging fully formed a year ago with the debut single ‘The World’s Biggest Paving Slab’, English Teacher have rightly been picking up positive reviews ever since, boosted further earlier this year by their first single of 2021, ‘R&B’. New track ‘Wallace’ sees the band whip through different rock sub-genres, as vocalist Lily Fontaine continues to make her mark as a lyricist you’ll be craning your head to hear for a long time to come.
“‘Wallace’ is an apocalyptic monologue about what happens when people listen to Wallace Hartley, the band-leader of the Titanic, as a distraction to the sinking of the ship”, says Fontaine. “Born in my hometown, his name is stretched across the door of our local Wetherspoons – thinking about the irony of this got me wrapped up in how the metaphor perfectly expressed my feelings towards the political leanings of the area and the general rise of the right-wing in modern England”.
The band have various live dates coming up from August onwards, including Sports Team’s Margate Bus Trip, and dates with Feet, Sprints and TV Priest.
