Flyckt

A former member of the band Urban Cone – who collaborated with the likes of Tove Lo and Porter Robinson – Rasmus Flyckt has launched his solo project Flyckt with impressive debut single ‘Spotlight’.

It’s “one of the first songs I wrote after I got out of a toxic relationship with my then-girlfriend”, he says. “I remember thinking to myself why I let this go so far. Everyone is in the spotlight in their lives, and maybe that can be counterproductive in some sense. Like, it’s harder to take action cause you’re afraid that everyone is gonna judge you. I believe this song was a message to myself saying that it’s gonna be fine. If you want change, you have to take action”.

With the solo project a change in sound and mood from his former band, Flyckt adapts well to electronic music, adding in – as he does – some techno darkness and rock theatricality to his pop sound. The seed of this stretches back further than you might think though. As the son of mixing engineer Niklas Flyckt, he’s been around recording studios for a long time.

“I remember him playing me the first mix of ‘Toxic’ by Britney Spears when I was eleven”, he recalls. “He asked me what I thought. I said ‘I really like it, but you should have the guitars in the pre-chorus a bit louder’. I was so proud when he told me I was right later on”.

‘Spotlight’ is taken from Flyckt’s debut EP ‘Instant Gratification Part 1’, which is set for release on 28 Aug. Watch the video for ‘Spotlight’ here:
