Highasakite

Tomorrow night Highasakite play their first ever UK headline show at Hoxton Hall in London. That they’ve never topped the bill at a show here before seems unbelievable – they’re an incredible live band that we should have all been demanding to see, not just nonchalantly waiting around for them to organise something eventually. I mean, they did organise something eventually, but I just think it should have happened a lot sooner. Is that clear? OK, good, glad we sorted that out.

Back home in Norway, Highasakite are appreciated to a more reasonable level. Their debut album, ‘Silent Treatment’, holds the record for the longest consecutive run in the Norwegian Top 40 at 94 weeks. The demand for their gigs has also helped to develop them into the impressive live act I previously mentioned that they are.

The band’s second album is due for release later this year, and they’ve just released the first single from it, ‘Someone Who’ll Get It’, which should have anticipation racing: it has what is possibly the best chorus the outfit has ever written.

It also marks a shift in tone from their debut LP, which runs throughout the new record. “There are not many love songs on the album”, says frontwoman Ingrid Helene Håvik. “Because I haven’t been in that state of mind for a long time. Global warming and war have been my main concern”.

I’d tell you to prepare yourself for that tomorrow night, but the Hoxton Hall show is all sold out, so that only works if you already have tickets. But they’ve also announced more UK and Ireland gigs in May, including at London’s Village Underground on 24 May.
