CMU Approved
Approved: Mieux
By Andy Malt | Published on Monday 18 July 2016
Mieux released their debut EP, ‘Are You Happy’, last year, firmly establishing their own distinct style, using organic sounds to build techno on a base of African polyrhythms. Their latest single ‘Rust’ – taken from a new release due out in September, called ‘Music Is Pain’ – sees them push further against their own set of self-imposed boundaries.
A careful balance of almost incongruous sounds, ‘Rust’ is driven by jazz drums with frantic piano and strings, which underpin a more relaxed melodic line that is slowly introduced. The interplay of hard and soft sounds is what makes the track really interesting, and I look forward to seeing how this fits into ‘Music Is Pain’.
