Following a string of singles over the last year, Naomi Banks has just released her second of 2020, and possibly the best of them all, ‘Closer’.
Having spent time performing backing vocals for artists including Laura Mvula and Lianne La Havas, she steps out to the front of stage with plenty of performance experience behind her.
Her voice has a rich quality to it that only comes with time, and has already been put to great use on previous tracks like ‘Hearts’ and ‘Daydream’. It feels, perhaps, as if she’s still searching for a defined sound to pull all of her work together, but the confidence of ‘Closer’ suggests she’s hit upon something she likes.
Of the new single’s lyrics, she says: “Closer is about being attracted to someone and not overthinking sexuality, just going with what feels right”.
