Approved: Pauli The PSM

Pauli ‘The PSM’ Lovejoy is not exactly a newcomer. They have released a smattering of excellent tracks over the last five years, in between working as Music Director for Jamie XX and FKA Twigs, as well as playing drums in Damon Albarn’s Gorillaz Sound System. Now, they’re sharpening their focus on solo material once again, with new single ‘I Got The Beat’ out now.
The new track follows last year’s ‘Don’t Hold Your Breath’, and – in contrast to that more sombre offering – kicks things upbeat by making an exuberant percussion part the musical focus of that track.
“This started off as a one take freestyle in my voice memos”, says Pauli of ‘I Got The Beat’. “In the first verse, I’m spitting knowledge and empowerment and it ends off with me just catching a vibe. But essentially, I just wanted to remind people that I’m still a badman on drums”.
