Red Pine

John Stuckey has had a successful career behind the scenes in live music, having acted as a sound engineer for artists including James Blake, Björk, Julio Bashmore and DJ Yoda, as well as managing the production of sound at venues such as Islington Academy and Ministry Of Sound. But now he’s stepping out into the spotlight himself, drawing on his training in music and sound design.

Taking the name Red Pine, he released his debut EP ‘City Limits’ last month via Leeds film and audio collective Starmap Studios. According to Stuckey, the five tracks contained on it are inspired by “the arrangement and relationship between urban and organic environments [like] an abandoned house surrounded by trees”.

What exactly does that sound like? Well, apparently a mash of electronic genres that is both atmospheric and, as the video for lead track ‘I Am Someone’ demonstrates, extremely easy to dance to. So, watch that, and then grab a free download of the EP from Bandcamp.
