Lord Spikeheart & DJ Scotch Egg

Producer Shigeru Ishihara (aka DJ Scotch Egg) is set to release new album ‘Tewari’ next month, under the name Scotch Rolex. It pulls together tracks created with various rappers and vocalists from Ugandan collective Nyege Nyege – including Lord Spikeheart, MC Yallah and Swordman Kitala – during a residency at their studios in 2019.

Alongside these artists, he began experimenting with trap and dancehall rhythms, throwing in elements of breakcore, gabber and chiptune to create a dark but inviting record. On opening track ‘Omuzira’, MC Yallah sets the tone for what is to come, and sets things up for their wilder collaboration, ‘Juice’, later on the album.

Yallah is not the only artist to make more than one appearance. Duma’s Lord Spikeheart features on three tracks – including first single ‘Success’. Bringing a black metal energy with his screamed vocals, he drives all of the darkest moments on ‘Tewari’, particularly on ‘Sniper’, which comes late on in the proceedings, giving you time to build up to it.

‘Tewari’ is out on 30 Apr on Nyege Nyege’s Hakuna Kulala label. Watch the video for ‘Success’ here:
