Artist News CMU Approved Releases
Approved: Sywel Nyw
By Andy Malt | Published on Thursday 11 November 2021
Each month throughout 2021, Sywel Nyw – aka musician Lewys Wyn – has released a new Welsh language single with a different collaborator.
Joining him along the way have been Catatonia’s Mark Roberts, Gwenno Morgan, Casi Wyn and more. The latest, ‘Seagal’, sees him joined by Lolo Selyf of punk band Y Ffug for an examination of 80s cliches.
Wyn says that he wanted “to create an aggressive song, a song with drive”. And what says aggression and drive more than Steven Seagal? The result is an infectious synth-pop track with a lyrical hook that translates as “you look like Steven Seagal, you move like Steven Seagal”.
With two tracks in the year-long project still to come, all twelve will be collected on new album ‘Deuddeg’ (that’s ‘Twelve’ in Welsh), which is set for release on 12 Jan.
