Approved: The Bridport Dagger
By Andy Malt | Published on Wednesday 27 April 2016
Last year The Bridport Dagger released their score for theatre production ‘The Shells – Ausflug Nach Neu-Friedenwald’ as an album. Now they’re back weaving their own tales with a new EP, ‘Knife Through Water’, which is due out on 12 May.
Their tendency towards the tense and dramatic runs as strong as ever on the new record – particularly on the previously released ‘The Butcher Of Rome’. Insistent stabs of piano drive the song forward as guitars jump from left to right with jittery energy, as Jason Idnani-Powdrill’s vocals tear through the middle.
This week the band release the video for another track ‘Harry Dean Stanton’, which sees them working again with ‘The Shells’ director Kirsten Brandt. The song finds The Bridport Dagger at their closest to laid back, though a slightly threatening air still looms, and the song is all the better for it.
