BBC One and Gary Barlow hunt for Take That tribute act

BBC One has announced that it will fill the Saturday night void left by ‘The Voice’ moving over to ITV with a new talent show search to find the members of a Take That tribute act. No, really. This is a real thing. It really is. The show, created in partnership with Gary Barlow and going by the working title ‘Let It Shine’, will also be an advert for upcoming stage music ‘The Band’, in which the winning group will star.
Barlow will lead the judging panel, with three others still to be announced, while the programme will be hosted by Graham Norton and Mel Giedroyc. Obviously.
“Back in 1989, we were just a group of normal guys from Manchester who came together to become Take That”, says Barlow. “The secret to our success was that each of us brought something different to the group and that the five of us had real chemistry. Now with ‘Let It Shine’ we’re looking for people from all walks of life to form another unique group who can recreate that magic. If you think you’ve got what it takes, we want to see it!”
Controller of BBC TV channels and iPlayer Charlotte Moore adds: “BBC One’s new Saturday night show will bring families together to celebrate Britain’s love of musical theatre, combining singing, performance and dance in a hotly contested search to find a new group. Masterminded by Gary Barlow, our sensational hosts Graham and Mel will guide viewers through eight weeks of unmissable competition, all to win a dream place in a new stage show”.
