Baaba Maal to give British Museum lecture

Baaba Maal will give a lecture at the British Museum on 10 February on contemporary African society, drawing on his work as a UN youth emissary.

CMU favourite Baaba Maal will be delivering a special lecture at the British Museum next week, giving his take on contemporary

African society and the key issues impacting the continent's young population.

He will draw on his experience working as Youth Emissary for the

United Nations' Development Programme, about which he says:

"It strengthens my determination to work harder to contribute more to improving the living conditions of disadvantaged people of the African continent, especially young people, whose future is seriously threatened by illiteracy, poverty and HIV/AIDS.

When I am talking about Africa, it is about how Africa will grow into the new millennium. This is why I really wanted to make music, so people can listen more to the music and the messages

I am talking about."

The talk will take place on 10 Feb at 7pm. Tickets are £5

(£3 conc) - press info from [email protected]

On a musical note, Baaba Maal will be back in London for a special performance at the Royal Festival Hall on 1 Apr. Tickets are on sale now.
