Barenaked Ladies' Steven Page charged with cocaine possession

Barenaked Ladies singer Steven Page has been charged with cocaine possession in New York State after police found drugs in an apartment, and was released on $10,000 bail.

Barenaked Ladies man Steven Page has been charged with possession of cocaine in New York State. The seemingly clean cut singer was arrested on Friday after both cocaine and marijuana were found in an apartment in the Fayetteville area of Manlius, and subsequently released after paying $10,000 bail.

Police Captain Bill Bleyle confirmed that the arrest occurred after patrolling police found a car with a door left open, and on investigations found Page and a woman in a nearby apartment with a white capsule in front of them. Two women were also charged with criminal possession, Stephanie Ford and Christine Benedicto. Bleyle is quoted as saying: "In the process of making the arrest, the girl he was with identified him as the lead singer for the group. He subsequently said, 'Yes, I play the guitar and sing"'.

Page's manager told reporters: "We cannot comment because the matter is before the courts but we are confident that our client Steven will be completely exonerated. Until that time it's business as usual for the Barenaked Ladies".

Page is due in court in Fayetteville tomorrow.
