BBC copy ITV's Saturday morning music strand idea

The revamped BBC1 Saturday Show will include a 45-minute Top of the Pops section, mirroring the music strand that ITV's SMTV runs each week.

When the new look Saturday Show hits BBC1 this weekend it will include a 45 minute Top of the Pops section, copying the way ITV show SMTV finishes each week with music show CDUK. The BBC kids show is being revamped as part of the ratings war against ITV, with new presenters Simon Grant and Fearne Cotton taking over from Dani Behr and Joe Mace this week. Some have claimed the TOTP strand is quite a cheeky carbon copy of ITV’s Saturday morning fourmula – but Cotton disagrees: “TOTP is the brand that everyone knows. It's something the BBC was doing way before anyone else."
