BBC drops Pete Doherty self-harm footage from documentary

The BBC has cut a scene of Pete Doherty cutting himself from a BBC Three documentary after concerns about imitation, and The Sun reports a strip search in Norway.

Actually it's not that much of a shocker, but tradition is tradition. The BBC have dropped some footage of Pete Doherty slashing himself with a broken bottle from a BBC 3 documentary, because of fears that impressionable folks might be encouraged to copy him. Counseling charity The Samaritans say that "broadcast portrayals of self-harm can cause imitative behaviour". They added "Teenagers can be influenced by programmes which feature celebrities or people they can relate to. Young people who are going through a difficult time could see the footage and perceive self-harm as an appropriate way to cope with problems."

The documentary, which followed the Babyshamble for three months, is still being edited but is due to air on 28 Aug, and the BBC say it will now not include the self-harming scene. A spokesman said: "We won't be showing the moment where Pete cuts himself. The programme is still being edited and the BBC has decided not to show that part."

And elsewhere in Doherty shocker news, the singer was apparently subjected to a full body strip search in Norway at the weekend, after being held at Gardermoen Airport, if reports in The Sun are to be believed. One of their 'sources', who just so happened to be in Gardermoen, said: "Pete was given a thorough search by officers. He looked fairly wide-eyed by the time they had finished. He got the full rubber glove treatment. They made sure there was absolutely no trace of drugs before they let him go."

Not sure I wanted to know that. But thanks, worthy Sun.
