BBC1 controller goes over Queen trailer

BBC1 Controller Peter Fincham has resigned after a trailer for a Queen documentary was edited to suggest the monarch stormed out of a photo session.

So this was quite a big story. BBC 1 Controller Peter Fincham has resigned over that incident where he told reporters that an upcoming documentary about the Queen would show the monarch storming out of a photo session. Actually the documentary showed no such thing - rather the show's trailer had been edited to look like it did. The whole debacle came as the BBC became embroiled in the whole phoney phone in scandal. A report into the Queen incident blamed "misjudgments, poor practice and ineffective systems" for allowing reporters to be misled about the programme, an independent production by RDF Media (whose chief has also quit over the incident). Confirming his decision to leave following the report, he told reporters: "From the outset it was clear as Controller of the channel I took responsibility for what had happened. I thought that was the right thing to do, the honourable thing to do".
