Black says Pixies album may in fact be forthcoming

Frank Black says a new Pixies album may happen, with Kim Deal showing interest in reviving an unfinished song he wrote for the Shrek 2 soundtrack.

Frank Black has spoken up again about the possibility of that new Pixies album he's been hinting at in recent months. It would seem that he is getting along okay with bassist/singer/songwriter Kim Deal, which is pretty much essential if the band are to produce an album. Referring to a new LP, he joked: "I haven't removed enough Kim Deal compositions from it yet. We'll have a fight about that or something. And of course, in the end I will dominate"

He added that Deal is interested in reviving a tune Black originally wrote for the Shrek 2 soundtrack, but which was never finished or released: "It's an old song that I've written lyrics to a few times and I've never been satisfied with, so Kim has expressed interest in some of that publishing money."

He continued: "I'm just kidding. No. Kim said, 'Hey, maybe we should start on that one.' I was very surprised to hear that. I would say that is considerable progress, that she has expressed interest in not only working on a song, but one of my songs."

He went on: "I think Kim is a little more afraid of the legacy being ruined, which is fair enough. But I think Joey [Santiago] and I are like, 'We're willing. We just want to ride this cash cow into the arena. We're just like, 'Come on, let's just do it, man. We're the Pixies, of course it's going to be good.' And she's all, 'Yeah, but what if it's not good?' So we'll see what happens. We haven't really been able to think about it up until now, because we've been too busy collecting money from all these festivals we do. It takes a lot of counting to get through all that cash."

And elsewhere in Frank Black news, the singer has told Spin that he can always tell that a band is English because of their attitude: "You can always tell which bands in the lobby of the hotel are English bands because they still have their outfits on, or they still have their persona and their sunglasses and they're like, 'I'm in a baaaaaand and we're like thiiiis,' whereas American bands are a more nerdy - they're like, 'Where's the breakfast buffet?' English bands are lying on the couch hungover, like they're in the middle of a photoshoot."
