Former label mates Bobby Gillespie, of Primal Scream, and Kevin Shields, of My Bloody Valentine, weren't so rock n roll recently when they added their names to a campaign to stop a North London pub from getting a late licence. According to the Independent, both rockers expressed concern about proposals to extend the licence of The Alma pub in Newington Green. The paper quotes a letter to the local council from Gillespie which complains that loud music played at the pub is already an irritant, telling councilors "the sound was of a very high frequency which reverberated into my bedroom and my children's bedroom - I found the repetitiveness disturbing and I was unable to sleep because of it", while adding that if the licence was extended it would "disturb the peace of our beautiful street and attract noisy, drunk people to our area". Shields reportedly also wrote in to oppose the pub's licence change proposals.
