Boom Bip talks Neon Neon album 'Stainless Style' with Gruff Rhys

Boom Bip tells NME.com that Neon Neon's debut 'Stainless Style', a pop album about John De Lorean, is aimed for a July release with guests including The Magic Numbers.

Producer/remixer Boom Bip has been speaking to NME.com about Neon Neon, his new project with Super Furry Animal Gruff Rhys, and the new outfit's debut album 'Stainless Style'. The long player is set to feature a host of guest appearances from the likes of The Magic Numbers, Har Mar Superstar, Spank Rock and Cate Le Bon (yes, daughter of).

Boom Bip, aka Bryan Hollon, explained: "We're doing the finishing mixes and it's sounding really good. We're aiming for a July release, but the last thing we want to do is rush it and screw it up."

He continued: "Gruff and I focused on making real pop songs - like Rick Springfield or Cyndi Lauper - that you can sing along to in your car. It's actually really tough to do the happy, catchy stuff, but Gruff's the perfect person to do it - it's so natural for him to have music and lyrics come out".

'Stainless Style' is apparently something of a concept thing relating to the life and times of John De Lorean (yes, designed the car). Boom Bip comments: "De Lorean was an icon for that era, which was all about girls and cars. He designed the perfect car for men who were having a mid-life crisis. The concept is fairly loose, but all the songs on the album are related to his life. That said, I think every song can stand up on its own".
