Bowie assists US accused

David Bowie has donated $10,000 to the appeal to lower the $90,000 bond for Mychal Bell, one of the Jena Six, criticising the judicial process in the Louisiana town.

David Bowie has donated $10,000 to help one of the Jena Six - Mychal Bell - who is one of the defendants in a controversial school assault case that took racial tensions in the Louisiana town of Jena into the headlines. The case against Bell has been criticised by various civil rights groups, meanwhile he remains in jail awaiting the payment of a rather steep $90,000 bond. It is the appeal to raise that bond that Bowie has contributed the $10,000 to. Confirming his donation, Bowie told reporters: "There is clearly a separate and unequal judicial process going on in the town of Jena. A donation to the 'Jena Six' Legal Defence Fund is my small gesture indicating my belief that a wrongful charge and sentence should be prevented"._
