British holidaymaker finds Beatles treasure trove in Australia

Kent man Fraser Claughton found Beatles photos, signed documents and possibly original Abbey Road studio tapes in a flea market suitcase in Australia.

A British man on holiday in Australia has discovered a possibly priceless treasure trove of Beatles memorabilia why looking for a new suitcase in a flea market. The box of Beatles bootie includes original photos and documentation signed by the band, items which memorabilia experts reckon could be worth tens of thousands of pounds. But, crucially, the find also included some studio tapes. Those tapes are yet to be examined by experts, but early indications show they could well be original tapes from Abbey Road studios, perhaps containing unreleased material. If so the value of the find could be huge.

Talking about his find, Kent based Fraser Claughton told reporters: "I've been told that to collectors the photographs, books, magazines and documents alone are worth a fortune. The documents in the main are recording sheets for some of the best-known Beatles hits. And the tapes, if they turn out to be unheard material, could be almost priceless."

Fraser plans to sell the material in individual lots on internet auction sites.
