Talking of songwriters - the man who helped pen many of Robbie Williams big hits, Guy Chambers, has urged the Official Chart Company to integrate download data into the singles chart to ensure it is a true representation of musical popularity. That way, he reckons, unsigned bands who have developed a considerable online following would stand a chance on getting in there. Speaking to BBC Radio Five Live he said it was positive "that a band that isn't signed can get a following through the internet", adding: "I'm all for bands developing a following without the help of a major label. I don't see why all the major labels should have all the action. They've made some terrible mistakes investing in crap. They're paying a high price now."
On illegal downloading he continued: "If I was 18 I don't think I would feel guilty, because your average 18-year-old doesn't have any money, and you do tend to be mad about music".
Back to more personal matters, when asked about his songwriting partnership with Robbie Williams, which has been on hold for a while now, he said: "I think we both took one another for granted a little bit, it got a bit stale and we needed a break." When asked if he and Robbie were planning to work together again he added: "Certainly not this year. "Whether it will be a break or a final thing I don't know. Time will tell."
