Channel 4 behind Kylie kidnap hoax

Kylie Minogue has spoken out after a Channel 4 documentary crew staged a fake kidnapping near her London home, prompting a police response.

Kylie Minogue has spoken out after a TV documentary crew faked her kidnapping sparking a police search. The makers of a new TV show on celebrity culture bundled a Kylie look alike into a car near the star's London home – causing onlooking neighbours to call the police.

Kylie told the Daily Mirror: "I thought that was a really stupid thing for a TV crew to do. I was really surprised when I heard. I think they did act irresponsibly. I'm very happy that the police were here immediately, as soon as they were called. I would like to praise them for reacting so fast."

The show was being made for Channel 4 – though they initially denied any involvement. But having realised it was indeed their show a spokesman for the station told reporters: "It's most unfortunate that the lookalike did turn out to be too much of a lookalike and caused distress."
