Mel and Sue have joined the presenting team for the new look RI:SE – which Channel 4 will relaunch into its breakfast slot next week. As previously reported the new look show will be fronted by former Channel 4 golden boy Iain Lee alongside existing presenter Edith Bowman. Producers have now confirmed that while Lee and Bowman will front the show from 7am to 8.30am, Mel and Sue will host the last half hour which is likely to be similar in format to the comedy duo’s Light Lunch show.
The breakfast show is being relaunched, of course, after it received a critical panning and poor viewing figures. Some media insiders are saying Channel 4 bosses want a quick turn around in fortune for the show, otherwise it may well be axed altogether. Some cynics reckon that if the show flops – and then we go to war with Iraq – Channel 4 will temporarily replace RI:SE with Channel 4 news specials, quietly dropping the programme while the war rages!
