Well, no surprises. The lesbians are at number one – despite Richard and Judy’s campaign to get Tatu banned after their manager Ivan Shapovalov admitted the video for ‘All The Things She Said’, in which 16 year old Julia Volkova and 17 year old Lena Katina kiss and fondle each other while dressed in school uniforms, was an "underage sex project" designed to appeal to men in search of "underage entertainment". The pop duo, whose catchy track has been getting much air play (as has the aforementioned video on the music TV channels), went straight in at number one and may well stay there if Richard and Judy’s campaign takes off. That said, Mr Timberlake will be putting up a good fight for next week’s number one when ‘Cry Me A River’ gets released today.
Elsewhere in this week’s chart Kelly Rowland goes straight in a two with ‘Stole’, David Sneddon falls to three, Jay Z to four, and that dancey track with Charlotte Church on vocals goes down to five.
New entries wise – welcome arrivals from Beenie Man in at 13 with ‘Street Life’, Supergrass with ‘Seen The Light’ at 22 (Parlophone, though, might have been hoping for a higher entry given the amount of TV appearances the boys have done of late), Syntax with the excellent ‘Pray’ at 28, Mint Royale with ‘Blue Song’ at 35, Soft Cell with ‘The Night’ at 39 and former CMU cover stars Easyworld with ‘Junkies’ at 50.
In fact, what with Feeder, Eminem, Electric Six, Lemon Jelly and our favourite pop trio Busted all still in the Top 40 its quite a healthy chart this week.
Albums wise, after his rise back up the charts throughout last month Justin Timberlake holds on to the top spot, with Busted moving up a space to two, and former number one Avril Lavigne down to three.
The number of album releases remained quite slow through to the end of January so there’s few new entries of note, though CMU favourites In Me are a welcome addition at 15, and Erasure’s album of cover versions goes straight in at 17.
