Chart report

Christina Aguilera's Beautiful enters at number one, knocking TaTu off the top, while Norah Jones returns to number one on the albums chart.

I must admit I quite like the new Christina Aguilera track – so much so it came as quite a shock when I realised it was Christina Aguilera. Either way I've no problem with 'Beautiful' going straight in at number one in this week's singles chart, especially as it knocks TaTu off the top spot, the appeal of the clever marketing of the lesbian duo fast wearing off.

Of course I'd have been much happier had the truly excellent 'Move Your Feet' from Junior Senior topped the charts, but a number four new entry for this catchy number shows the power of crossover radio appeal (it's been playlisted from Xfm to Kiss to Radio 1 to Cheese FM) and is a welcome addition.

Elsewhere in this week's Top 40 DJ Sammy goes in at 2 with 'The Boys of Summer', Ainslie, the latest Fame Academy boy gets a new entry at 5 with the not actually that bad 'Keep Me A Secret' and Mel C returns to the charts with 'Here It Comes Again' at 7. Welcome new entries lower down the chart for Massive Attack with 'Special Cases' at 15, Royksopp with 'Eple' at 16 and Zwan with 'Honestly' at 28.

Strangely, after Westlife's brief reentry in the Top 40 last week, Gareth Gates' 'What My Heart Wants To Say' re-enters this week at 35. What's going on at S Records that is resulting in these long forgotten pop ballads getting back in the charts?

Albums wise and the media hype surrounding the Grammys helps Norah Jones climb back to number one with 'Come Away With Me' – while continuing Brits hype secure Top 5 album positions for Tom Jones (Lifetime Achievement winner), Coldplay (best group and best album winner) and Justin Timberlake (tabloid pleasing arse grabber). New entries wise with the albums very little – except the Led Zepplin best of at 14, the new Matchbox 20 album at 31 and, as the hype continues around that documentary, Jacko’s best of returns again at 24.

Clear the singles charts – Eminem’s back next week. But will he be able to fight off competition from the Gareth Gates' charity single to get two week's at the top? We’ll see…
