Chicago Police apologise to Ice Cube over suspect alert

The Chicago Police Department has apologised to Ice Cube after an alert described a sex-assault suspect as resembling the rapper, which a TV station illustrated with his footage.

The Chicago Police Department has apologised to Ice Cube after issuing an alert that described the suspect in a series of sexual assaults as looking like the ex-NWA MC. Police issued statements to radio and television describing the suspect as a black male in his mid-20s, adding that he "resembles the popular rap artist Ice Cube." A local TV station then chose to accompany the police alert with footage from a Cube video.

A spokesperson for the Chicago Police said: "We acknowledged the information should not have been on the alert. We took immediate corrective action. We apologise to Ice Cube for what was an honest mistake and came with no ill intent."

The alert was reissued without the reference to the rapper. Ice was in Chicago at the time filming Barber Shop 2.
