Classic albums to be rereleased on Next Level CD

Major labels plan to release classic albums on Super Audio CD, with EMI remastering Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon and Sony planning fifteen Dylan albums.

Major labels are planning to release a number of classic albums on Super Audio CD (SACD) format – a new technology which apparently offers crystal clear sound when played on Sony manufactured SACD players, but which can also be played on conventional CDs.

EMI will release Pink Floyd's ‘Dark Side of the Moon’ remastered for the new format by longtime Pink Floyd engineer/producer James Guthrie. Universal are releasing a remastered version of ‘The Police Greatest Hits -- Every Breath You Take: The Classics’. Both are due out in March.

Other artists expected to be release on the format by Universal include Peter Gabriel, the Roots, the Wallflowers, and 3 Doors Down, while Sony are set to release fifteen Bob Dylan albums in the format later this year.
