CMU Selects - the last week’s standout releases

Five releases - from Fcukers, Kim Petras, yaemulli, Confidence Man & Jade Thirlwall, and su i think - that grabbed our attention this week.

CMU Selects - the last week’s standout releases

Fcukers’ new single ‘Play Me’

Fun as fcuk and built like a tank. ‘Play Me’ lurches forward on a bassline that feels half UKG, half broken printer. It’s co-produced by Kenneth Blume (yes, Kenny Beats if you squint), with Shannon Wise’s vocal acting like the only sober person in the room - calm, precise and holding it all together.

It’s chaotic, it’s grounded, it absolutely slaps.

Kim Petras’ new single ‘Freak It’

The return of ravey maximalism with no apology and even less subtlety. ‘Freak It’ is basically a bottle of WKD turned into a pop song, pulling from the lawless bliss of LMFAO, Benny Benassi and early 2010s EDM.

Co-produced by Frost Children (who’ve made a whole career out of dancing between earnest and ironic), this one lands squarely on joy.

yaemulli’s new single ‘Adore’

‘Adore’ is a blur of alt-R&B and cloud rap, layered with hazy production and a distinctly lo-fi, almost demo-like feel. yaemulli’s voice is distant, often drifting at the edges of the mix, capturing a moment of quiet obsession that refuses to be tidy or polished. It’s laidback and clearly organically homegrown.

Confidence Man & JADE’s new single ‘gossip’

Confidence Man meets JADE’s post-pop reinvention - no leftover Little Mix sweetness here. The chorus, built around the now-infamous “Tina says you’re a cun”, is sharp, camp and playful. It carries that Basement Jaxx bounce but with a cheeky, strut-ready zing.

su i think’s new single ‘hit me then’

“for the girls who lurv love and lurv a scrap”. su i think threads emotion through smooth synths and a melody that’s aching but not overwrought. It’s soft-pop with emotional bruising.
