CMU Selects - the last week’s standout releases

Our selection of five releases that cut through the noise last week, from Charli xcx, John Cale, ENNY, Celeste, Robyn + Leon Vynehal

CMU Selects - the last week’s standout releases

Charli xcx’s new single with John Cale ‘House’

Something of Cale’s musical spirit seems to haunt this track: droning strings, shards of jagged feedback and a final minute slathered in distortion all nod to his Velvet Underground days. And with Charli, not many artists can say they’ve navigated Witch House, PC Music, Hyperpop and John Cale, but here we are.

ENNY’s new single ‘Selfridges’

It’s ENNY’s trademark eloquence over a beat from Leeds crew Gotts Street Park. Each release further proves that ENNY’s musicality is innate.

Celeste’s new album ‘Woman Of Faces’

Sumptuous and stark, Celeste’s new album balances orchestration and modern classical flourishes. The piano on ‘People Always Change’ could be straight out of Philip Glass’s ‘Glassworks’.

Robyn’s new single ‘Dopamine’

Euphoric yet fragile, classic Robyn. This track captures the first rush of love, but tempers it with tiny pangs of desperation (“I just need to know that I’m not alone”) and fatalism (“it’s going to be whatever and that’s cool”).

Leon Vynehal’s new single ‘Undo (Your Body)’

A sensual, club-ready cut featuring the sampled vocals of Renao.
