CMU Selects - the last week’s standout releases

Our selection of five releases that cut through the noise this week, from Jessie Ware, Baby Keem, Kendrick Lamar, Momo Boyd, Genesis Owusu, Nori + Ella Boh

CMU Selects - the last week’s standout releases

Jessie Ware’s new single ‘Ride’

Initially debuted in the NYC Downlow at Glastonbury 2024, this is a saucy dancefloor number. Built around a sly, sexy lift of ‘The Good, The Bad And The Ugly’ theme, it’s dramatic, knowing and just the right side of camp. Giddy up.

Baby Keem’s new single Good Flirts’s (featuring Kendrick Lamar & Momo Boyd)

This track is light but a bit obsessive, circling an ex over a soft, downtempo beat. Kendrick’s scene-stealing verse and Momo Boyd’s silky vocal give it just enough lift to stand out as an easy entry point into Keem’s new album ‘Ca$ino’.

Genesis Owusu’s new single ‘STAMPEDE’

‘STAMPEDE’ is abrasive, rhythmic, synth-heavy and built to feel bigger than one person. Filmed in Accra and directed by Isaac Brown, the accompanying video doubles down on that communal urgency, with Owusu rallying through the streets. As he puts it: “Be heeded and not herded”.

Nori’s new single ‘hell0_hi’

Nori leans into a metallic grime backbone but keeps it loose, fun and slightly cheeky.

Ella Boh’s new single ‘LLORONiTA’

‘LLORONiTA’ sits in that dark, atmospheric pop lane, with Boh’s hushed vocals and shadowy production. There’s a Billie-ish mood in the palette, but enough weight to hint at her own direction.
