CMU Selects - the last week’s standout releases

Our selection of five releases that cut through the noise this week, from Blossoms, Basht., Lynks, FKA twigs + Julia Jacklin

CMU Selects - the last week’s standout releases

Blossoms’ new single ‘Meet Me In Love’

The Stockport five-piece swerve into full romantic disco mode, all skyward synths and Tom Ogden as a proper crooner-frontman. The video stars Maya Jama, which is an unexpected and very effective flex.

Basht.’s new single ‘Keira Knightley’

Heavy bassline, heavier kick drum, then a bridge that pulls the floor out from under you before snapping back for the hook. Inspired by the ‘Love Actually’ cue-card scene, used here for something far less romantic.

Lynks’ new single ‘Kick The Ball!!’

An unsanctioned, deeply unhinged World Cup anthem from pop’s most reliable agent of chaos - exactly as ridiculous and exactly as catchy as that sentence implies.

FKA twig’s new single ‘On Your Mind’ (featuring Lil Yachty)

Her first release since the ‘Eusexua’ Grammy win, here twigs speeds up into something closer to hyperpop. It's pulsing, hazy, three and a half minutes long, and written the night she found out visa problems would cost her the US leg of her own tour. Pain into euphoric sonics, more or less literally. Yachty’s verse slots in like he’s always belonged there.

Julia Jacklin’s new single ‘Get Away From Me (I Think I'll Love You Soon)’

Jangly, twangy and classically beautiful. A comforting first taste of upcoming album ‘The Gem’, recorded above a Melbourne pub of the same name.
